About Friends of Needy & Orphan Ministries

Founded in 2019 by Ms. Najjemba Florence, Friends of Needy & Orphan Ministries (FNOM) is a community-based organization dedicated to transforming lives in Mityana District, Uganda. Born from a deep compassion for the vulnerable, our mission focuses on combating illiteracy and improving the wellbeing of orphaned children, while extending support to single mothers, widowers, the elderly, and unemployed youth.

Through comprehensive programs in education, skills development, healthcare, and community support, we empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty. What began as one woman's vision has grown into a movement of hope, restoring dignity and creating sustainable change for Uganda's most marginalized communities.

Our Story: From Compassion to Community Transformation

The Spark That Ignited Change

In 2018, Ms. Najjemba Florence, then a primary school teacher in Mityana District, encountered three orphaned siblings rummaging through garbage for food near her classroom. This heartbreaking moment crystallized into a burning determination to create systemic change for Uganda's vulnerable children. After months of visiting homes and assessing needs, she mobilized friends and neighbors to establish Friends of Needy & Orphan Ministries (FNOM) in January 2019.

Starting with just 12 orphans in a rented single-room structure, FNOM's early days saw Florence and volunteers teaching under mango trees, sharing meals from their own homes, and pooling resources for medical care. What began as emergency relief gradually evolved into comprehensive programming as the depth of community needs became apparent.
